A Map Of London’s Commonest Surnames | Londonist

Really interesting map of London's commonest surnames.

I was born in North Harrow and grew up in the north west of London during the 60s and 70s. During the 70s, the influx of what we then called Ugandan Asians (I have no real idea if this is what the majority of immigrants really were) was very noticable and led to mild bouts of racism (only mild in my personal experience, though I went on the big Anti-facist marches of the late 70s). The map makes clear the extent of the influx - Patel and Shah being the most common surnames in the area. I wouldn't have expected this, though many of my school friends had these surnames.
